Crofton Christmas Concert

Extensive effort was put into the 2021 Christmas Concert and the outcome was absolutely amazing!

To start off the afternoon, the flute ensemble played four Christmas classics, followed by the flute trio and then the string quartet playing pieces such as ‘Away in a Manger’, ‘O Little Town of Bethlehem’ and even ‘The First Noel’. The string musicians also came together, as did the guitar group.

A beautiful piano piece was played by Miles B-D in Year 11. He played a composition from musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, ‘Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence’. His performance was gripping.

Shortly after, the brass group took centre-stage and performed ‘We Three Kings’ and ‘Silent Night’.

Everyone enjoyed the excellent songs played by the ukulele group, led by our wonderful Mr Allen, with Stevie in Year 11 excelling in her role as lead singer! This was then followed by three junior orchestra songs, conducted by our fantastic Mr Oliver.

Lots of our students at Crofton School are incredibly talented in the music department and the one group that gets everyone involved is the choir. They sung three brilliant songs, starting off with an African song called Ngemi Thandanzo, and ending with ‘White Winter Hymnal’.

The senior orchestra performed four pieces, varying from the James Bond theme to ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams.

The ukulele group and the choir came together to perform a song called ‘Paperback Writer’ written by The Beatles lyricists Paul McCartney and John Lennon. This was followed by the older members of the choir, ‘colla voce’, singing ‘Shallow’, ‘Stand By Me’ and a magical mash-up of ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’ mixed with ‘Winter wonderland’.

To end the lovely afternoon, everyone came together to sing a verse of ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ which was finished off by a Year 11 band playing everyone out.
