GCSEs 2020

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

Dear Year 11 Parents and Carers

GCSEs 2020

I am sure by now you will be aware of the Government’s announcement last night about this year’s exams and assessments. In summary we know that the GCSE exams will not be sat this year, but that the Government have stated students will get their qualifications. We now await further detail on how this is to be decided and will of course communicate further on this with you as soon as we can.

As all schools will be closed to students, with a small number of exceptions, the Year 11 Science mock exams planned for next week are cancelled.

I know that parents and students will have many questions and concerns about this. I have spoken to the Year 11s this morning and told them:

oHow  impressed  I have been with the way  they have approached the exams this week, given the difficult circumstances.

  • That I know they will have mixed feelings about the cancellation of the exams, but have reminded them the government has said they will still get their qualifications and so their hard work will be rewarded.

  • That we do not yet know how this will be done, but evidence will be required in some form from schools, so having the mock exams done at this point may be very useful.

  • However they are assessed, we expect it will be based on the current GCSE specifications they have been following. Therefore it is important we continue to prepare them to be assessed against these, and that they continue to work hard this week and beyond, including the remaining mock exams this week. Whatever they do will have a positive impact.

  • We will do everything we can to support them to get the best possible outcomes, whatever system the government chooses to enable them to get their qualifications.

  • Your children have been an absolute credit to you during this last week. I would like to thank you for all the support I know you have been providing at home.

The school will be closed to almost all students after Friday as directed by the government. I will be communicating with all parents before the end of the week with more details about how we intend to support all students beyond the end of this week. However I wanted to prioritise communications to yourselves at this time.

I hope you will be reassured that we will be doing everything we can to ensure Year 11 Crofton students achieve the best possible outcomes. I will be in touch with more detail as soon as we receive further clarity from the Government.

Yours faithfully,

Mr S Harrison
