Dear Parents and Carers,
With the Christmas holiday period fast approaching, I am writing to you with some useful information about the end of term which I hope will be of interest.
Year 11 Mock Exams
Year 11 have recently completed their mock exams, and I have been very impressed with the maturity and commitment they have shown. The important work of analysing the results and ensuring students are clear on what they have done well and what their next steps are, is well underway. Of course, there are many areas in which the school will be supporting the Year 11s in the lead up to the GCSE exams, and details of this can be found in the Year 11 section of our website. However the single most important factor in examination success is always the individual effort each student puts into their exam preparation. Hard work will always be rewarded regardless of year group, and I know many of the Year 11 students are now seeing the truth of this in the success they are experiencing.
Christmas Events
We have been marking the Christmas period in a number of ways, including our Christmas concerts at Holy Rood Church on the 10 and 11 of December 2019. These were excellent events involving over 100 students from all year groups showcasing their musical talents, and I am delighted that so many parents and people from the local community attended.
Please could I remind you that on the last day of term, Friday 20 December 2019, students will be dismissed at the earlier time of 12.20pm. We return to school on Monday 6 January 2020 (Week B).
Procedures for Emergency Closures
As the weather gets colder, it is a good time to remind you of our procedures in the unlikely event of an emergency closure due to the weather. Parents are advised that, should a substantial snowfall be forecast, they frequently check our website, their mobile phones for a text/email, listen to local radio and watch the Hampshire website https://www.hants.gov.uk/education/schoolclosures/ for school closures. Of course we hope this will not be necessary, but it is always best to be prepared!
Staffing Changes
There are a small number of staffing changes for the start of next term. Mrs Williams will be leaving our HR team, and Mrs Riordan will be leaving our Science Technician team. Both have been with us at Crofton for many years and made a huge contribution to the school in their areas, and we wish them all the best with their next steps. In addition Miss Brown will also be leaving our cover supervisor team and we are welcoming Mrs Werduch-Kus back to our Science technician team. Finally Mrs Bell will be leaving early next term on maternity leave, and we look forward to welcoming her replacement Miss Dunning.
Finally, I would like to wish you a very happy Christmas and a successful 2020.
Yours faithfully,
Mr S Harrison
Headteacher
