Dear Parents and Carers
I am writing to inform you about an important change to the arrangements for the end of term. Yesterday afternoon, the Department of Education announced that Friday 18 December could be taken as an INSET day, having previously ruled out this option. They have taken this decision in the interests of school staff wellbeing and also to reduce the time over the Christmas period in which track and trace action might be needed arising from a positive Covid-19 test in school.
In response to this, I can confirm the last day of term will now be Thursday 17 December, a day earlier than previously communicated. The Department for Education has acknowledged the late notice of this is unhelpful to parents, so I hope that communicating this to you now, will ensure that you have as much time as possible to put any alternative arrangements in place for Friday 18 December. The previously communicated last day of term timings will remain the same, moving from Friday 18 to Thursday 17 December.
As Friday 18 December will now be designated as an INSET day, we will remove one of our remaining INSET days for next year to ensure no teaching time is lost for students, and will confirm these changes at the start of next term.
Therefore, the revised dates and timings for the end of term are as follows:
Thursday 17 December: Last day of term, all students will be dismissed by 2.05 pm.
Friday 18 December: INSET Day – school closed to students. Monday 4 January: Students return to school (Week A).
I will be writing to you with a more detailed end of term communication next week.
Yours faithfully Mr S Harrison
Headteacher
