Team Seas

On the 29th of October 2021, American Youtubers Mark Rober and MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) founded an international collaborative fundraiser named Team Seas. This was created in an aim to decrease the quantity of debris in the ocean.

This fundraiser was mainly created to tackle marine pollution. Marine pollution is a combination of chemicals and trash, spread by humans that enter the sea, and causes harmful effects. According to oceanographers, 89% of marine animals die because of this, which is over 100 million animals each year. Due to this, many animals are becoming extinct. Imagine losing your life, because of careless humans.

To prevent this, MrBeast and Mark Rober created Team Seas. MrBeast explained,’” For every $1 donated, that’s one pound less of trash in the ocean”. This makes it easy for various people to donate what they can. Team Seas’ main target was to remove 30,000,000 pounds (14,000,000kg) of marine debris from the ocean by the 31st of December 2021 by raising 30 million dollars.

This project is a follow up to their other recent project, Team Trees, where their goal was to raise 20 million dollars to plant 20,000,000 trees to our planet. As that project was successful, they decided to launch a new one, hoping it would be as effective.

Even some of the most famous people have joined in. In 2019, Elon Musk donated one million dollars towards Team Trees.

All they ask of us, is to donate $1, because that’s more than enough.

This is a non-profitable cause because every single dollar Team Seas raises towards the $30M will go to independently verified pounds of trash that have been removed from beaches, rivers, or the ocean. When you donate, the funds go directly to two organizations: Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Clean-up.

This is going to become one of the most everlasting and remarkable changes in the world. The original target was surpassed in their successful removal of30,467,921 pounds of marine debris.

Fundraises such as this encourage people to donate for a good cause, because one small deed can make a huge difference. Can you be that person? Can you make a change?
