Year 11 Exams Update

Dear Year 11 Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your family are well.

It has been really nice to see so many students continue to engage with their online learning via Teams and to see some of our students who are able to be in school. We are so pleased to be able to welcome students back to school from 8 March. Further details of the arrangements will be sent to you next week. It has also been really lovely for tutors and the Head of Year to speak to the students via their 1:1 meetings held on Wednesday 24 February.

I wrote to you in January before the GCSE consultation had been completed, we now have the outcomes from the consultation. I have summarised the key points below and actions the school will be taking. I want to reassure you that we will be working hard not just to settle your children back into school but to ensure they are fully prepared for any additional assessments they need to complete. It is crucial that they take these seriously as they did with the November mock examinations. We need to ensure we have robust information regarding student performance that we can use to submit to the exam boards.

As you may have already read in the news this Year’s GCSE grades will be awarded using teacher assessments. Ofqual are still to publish further guidance on how we make grade judgements by the end of this term. We do know that we will be asked to use a range of evidence including mock exam results, coursework or other work completed as part of the student’s course. These additional pieces of work will be substantial pieces of work such as essays or in-class tests...
