Respect

Our whole school approach to SMSC is underpinned by respect of others.

Through SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) Schools should promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

​

Actively promoting the values means challenging opinions or behaviours in school that are contrary to fundamental British values.

​

We encourage students to accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely.

We promote United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child:

Article 14

Every child has the right to think and believe what they want and also to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their right. Governments must respect the rights of parents to give their children guidance about this right.

 

Article 29

Education should develop each child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as their parents, their own and other cultures and the environment.

 

Article 30

Every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family whether or not these are shared by the majority of people in the country where they live.

Further tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other cultures.
